Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) for stays in the UK compulsory from 2 April 2025 (Monaco, EU, EEA)

The Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) for visits to the United Kingdom of up to 6 months will come into effect from 2 April 2025 for Monegasques and citizens of the European Union (EU) and the European Economic Area (EEA).

The ETA does not apply to British or Irish citizens or citizens of the British Overseas Territories, those who have a visa, permission to live, work or study in the United Kingdom, including settled or pre-settled status or the right of abode, who do not go through border control when transiting through a British airport.

The main points

  • ETA applications can be made from 5 March 2025 by Monegasques and citizens of the following European countries: Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czechoslovakia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Malta, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, San Marino, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Vatican City.   • The ETA allows to: come to the UK for up to 6 months for the purposes of tourism, visiting family and friends, business or short term study; come to the UK for up to 3 months on the Creative Worker visa concession; come to the UK for a permitted paid employment; transit through a UK airport when passing through border control.
  • All persons concerned travelling (adult, child, baby) must be in possession of the ETA which is linked to the passport with which the application was made (separate applications).
  • Response time: generally within 3 working days (by e-mail).
  • Duration from the date of issue of the ETA: 2 years or from the expiry of the passport within this period (it is possible to travel to the United Kingdom several times during this period).
  • Costs: £10 (no refund once the application has been made).
  • The application is made via the UK ETA App or the dedicated online portal (photo of passport used to travel to the UK, facial scan where applicable, photo of traveller, questionnaire, payment).
