Ministerial Order no. 2023-416 of 11 July 2023 (JDM no. 8652 of 21 July 2023) introduces the obligation to install a carbon monoxide detector (which may be "connected") applicable to new and existing installations.
It amends Annexes 2 (Regulations relating to the general principles of installation, maintenance and inspection of technical equipment) and 3 (Regulations relating to the special provisions applicable to buildings depending on their purpose) of Ministerial Order no. 2018-1079 of 21 November 2018 on the Regulations relating to the general principles of safety against the risks of fire and panic in buildings, as amended.

The carbon monoxide detector (which must be capable of emitting a local audible alarm to warn the occupant of an abnormal rise in carbon monoxide levels) becomes compulsory in the event of:
- the presence of an instantaneous water heater fuelled by gas or liquefied hydrocarbons (Annex 2, article CH 34, new § 4 - Special provisions relating to hot water production appliances with an output equal to or less than 8.72 kW) ;
- housing connected to the fuel gas distribution network (Annex 2, article GZ 3, new § 2 - Conformity and implementation of the gas installation in residential buildings; Annex 3, new article HAB 16-2 - Provisions applicable to buildings for residential use, housing for the elderly or disabled).
This local alarm can be supplemented by the simultaneous broadcasting of information to one or more connected devices (smartphone, tablet, etc.).
